What's Your Gam3? 1st Oct

New games straight to your inbox

Welcome

Welcome to What’s Your Gam3? My aim with everything I do is to introduce you to new games! As I continue to improve the newsletter, all feedback is gratefully received. Now, let’s see what has happened this week.

Thoughts on the week

Pudgy Penguins

Crypto Twitter is abuzz with discussions on Pudgy Penguins, shedding light on the debate surrounding its positive impacts in the NFT and broader Web3 space. It’s pivotal to focus on what these entities bring to the domain instead of dwelling on the individual gains of the bag holders. [It’s also a lot safer…]

Pudgy Penguins serves as a prominent public domain introduction to recognizable IP, inducing crypto-curious minds to explore the realms of NFT. It acts as a beacon, drawing attention to the legitimate aspects of NFT, and diverging the spotlight from the associated scams, similar to what web3games aspires to achieve.

So whilst Pudgy is captivating audiences with passive interaction, the interactive and immersive nature of games intensifies user engagement, creating profound connections between players and the virtual worlds, especially when complemented by Web3 mechanics, like trackable characters and provable rarity.

Mass market games, especially those free to play, serve as the vanguard, paving the way for broader mainstream adoption of the space, thus reshaping public perception about NFTs and web3gaming. Helping combat the prevailing scam stigma around NFTs.

I would call on anyone who believes in web3gaming going mainstream to support any game that pushes to bridge the gap out of the web3 bubble, regardless of bag holdings or genre preferences.

What's Your Gam3? Ep. 59

This week on What’s Your Gam3? I spoke to Hatchyverse. You can hear the full episode on YouTube!

Thanks to our sponsors this week, Big Time!

Hatchyverse

Overview

This week we spoke with Hatchyverse. The company is involved in developing various games, aiming to create a connected ecosystem of games under one IP. They have three games in early access, and they also plan to release webcomics to expand their universe and storylines.

Games

Rampage:
A casual mobile game, available on Android, with minimalist gameplay.
It is roguelike, featuring survivor IO build and hatchet characters.
Players face waves of corrupted monsters, and the game has a progression system involving power-ups and upgrades.
Developed internally by the founding team.

Hatching Magica:
A co-op wilderness survival game compared to "Don't Starve Together" and "Valheim."
Involves protecting a celestial egg and features crafting and tower defense components.
Available in early access for Windows with plans for mobile availability.

Arcadia:
A multiplayer battle arena game developed by an outside game studio, Gears to Game.
Offers fast-paced action with various spells and power-ups.
It's part of the company's structure allowing external developers to collaborate using the company's assets.

IP

The company is building an ecosystem of games under a flexible IP, involving both internal and external developers. Their approach to IP, community involvement in development, and plans for future expansion in storylines and game types paint a picture of a comprehensive and connected gaming universe.
The company is developing an IP that blends creative commons use and typical restrictive IP.
They encourage external game developers to build games under their IP.
They offer a structure where developers retain profits until a certain revenue threshold.
External developers retain 100% of their proceeds until their revenue breaks $300K per year.
After crossing the threshold, 10% of the amount above that comes back to the company.

[I am testing out different styles of summary, any feedback on what best captures the interview and shares the information, would be appreciated.]

Generative Dungeon

Generative Dungeons offers two ways to play. Firstly within any NFT marketplace directly in the NFT, and secondly a downloadable app that offers different maps for every NFT.

+Huge variety of maps
+Skill trees and equipment to customize the hero
+Very unique concept playing directly in the NFT on the marketplace

-Lack of clear “quests” lead to some aimless wandering
-Development of character felt slow
-Quite repetitive for enemies encountered, making it grindy.

The game is available to play on PC, for more information follow their Twitter to keep up to date.

Heroes of Mavia

Heroes of Mavia is an online massively multiplayer strategy game in which you defend your bases and raid others.

+Clean graphics
+Familiar concepts and controls
+Range of strategies for base raiding and defense

-Slow build trees
-Random matchmaking
-Hard to tell what it offers within the busy genre

The game is currently on mobile and is invite-only, for more information follow their Twitter to keep up to date.

Battle Derby

High chaos battle arena, with cars! You have a selection of cars with weapons. Currently, the game mode is Deathmatch, with more coming. You load into an arena with other players and fight to the death.

+Large variety of cars to fit play style
+Daily rewards and quests to keep you coming back
+Casual chaotic play

-Potential pay to win in regards to car strength
-I encountered a low player base
-Without additional modes, it is relatively repetitive.
